Short Biography Story
Ershad Sikder was born in Madarghona village of Nalchiti upazila of Jhalokati district. His father's name was Bande Ali. He moved to Khulna from his birthplace Nalchiti in 1986-8. [5] After coming to Khulna, Ershad worked there for some time as an assistant to the railway station porter. From there he gradually joined the gang that stole and sold railway sheets. He later formed a party with them and became known in the area as Ranga Chora.
In 1967-76, he formed a group called Ramda Bahini which was involved in the robbery and various terrorist activities in Khulna railway station and ghat area. It was with this Ramda force that Ershad occupied the Ghats No. 4 and 5 in 1982 and emerged as its sole controller.
Criminal activities and murders :-
After entering politics, Ershad became more powerful. From 1984 to 1986, he was involved in the seizure of Khulna Railway property, forcible seizure of private property, drug dealing, extortion, and other criminal activities. In 1991, he intimidated an ice factory owner named Rafiq from Ghat No. 4 areas, expelled him, seized the ice factory, and forced all traders to buy ice from his mill.
He is also known to have used the ice mill as his torture center. Ershad was charged with more than 70 murders by his one-time collaborator and later witness Noor Alam. Noor Alam testified in court describing 24 murders. Noor Alam further testified that Ershad had more than 70 firearms even though only one weapon was recovered from his house known as Swarnakamal.
Personal life :-
Ershad's 7 marriages were known through various means. His first wife's name was Khodeja Begum; In 1983, she married Khodeja. He is also known to have had another wife, Sanjeeda Akhter Shobha, whom he brought to his luxurious home, the Golden Lotus. Also known are Taslima of Rupapur's Rajapur village, Farida of Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat, Ramesha, wife of an associate Barek commander, and Durgarani of Paikgachha, the heroine of the procession. There are also allegations that Ershad tortured his wife Hira on the testimony of Noor Alam.
In the womb of Ershad's first wife Khodeja, Ershad had four children, three sons, and a daughter. Besides, after the arrest, a daughter named Jannatul Nawrin Emily Esha was born in the womb of Shovar.
Arrest and execution :-
Ershad Sikder was arrested in 1999 and 43 cases were registered against him. [6] The lower court sentenced him to death in seven murder cases and sentenced him to life imprisonment in four cases. He appealed to the President for mercy but the President rejected his request and he was hanged at Khulna Central Jail on May 10, 2004, at midnight.
